After a long search you have finally found the perfect sofa: a beautiful fabric sofa ! Of course you want to spend a lot of time on your new sofa, but how does a fabric sofa stay beautiful? Whether or not you've spent a lot of money on a new fabric sofa, you don't want to have to look for a replacement after a year. That's why we like to share the best tips with you, so that you can enjoy your fabric sofa for a long time!
Tip #1 Shake pillows
It already starts with the delivery of your new fabric sofa . Who would have thought that? Wouldn't you think your sofa would be at its best then? That's true, but if you really want the perfect sofa, you still have to do something. When a sofa is delivered, one or more cushions may appear narrower or rounder. This can happen because the seat and back surfaces were pressed together during transport. But don't panic, just shake up the cushions and they will have their original shape again! So, now you can plop down!
Tip #2 Change seat regularly
Speaking of flopping down; plopping down in the same place every day is not a smart idea. This may sound very logical, but most people often have their favorite spot on the couch. There is of course nothing wrong with that, but to maintain the same firmness of the seats and cushions everywhere, it is better to regularly sit in a different place. This is because in seats that are used relatively more often, pitting and excessive wear can occur. And of course you don't want that!
Tip #3 Shake pillows or remove folds by hand
Did you know that the seat and back cushions adapt to your body shape? Of course it is very comfortable, but the eye also wants something! There may be some natural folds in the fabric. To make the sofa look like new again, you can do two things. Which of the two depends on the filling of the pillows.
Filling with feathers
With a filling with feathers, cut or ground foam rubber or silicone fibres, you can shake the cushions again. For a better effect, remove the outer covering and give the inner part a little shake. Do not forget to put the corners back into the outer covering.
Filling with foam rubber
With a filling with solid pieces of foam rubber it is all a bit easier. You simply rub the surface with your hand to remove the folds. Simple right? Please note that during the first three months the filling always becomes slightly softer. This is a normal process, so don't worry if your sofa feels a little softer! Tip #4 Out of the sun
The sun is shining, the sky is blue and there is not a cloud in the sky! Sounds delicious right? That is less pleasant for your fabric sofa, because this can cause the fabric to fade or discolour. Therefore, take into account the placement of your new sofa. This also differs per type of material. Some fabrics discolor less than other fabrics when exposed to direct sunlight. If you want to be sure that you get a type of fabric with the least chance of discolouration, ask a sales representative for advice!
Tip #5 Pets
As sweet and fun as pets are, sometimes they don't go well with your fabric sofa. Therefore, be careful with your dog or cat. The simplest solution is of course to ensure that your dog or cat does not sit on the couch as much as possible, but sometimes this is unavoidable. A scratching post is a good idea for a cat, but does your cat like everything except the scratching post? Try not to give up! For example, put the scratching post outside in the walking route, with a bit of luck the cat will put its nails in the post. Unlearning from scratching will probably be difficult, but who knows, maybe your cat and fabric sofa will go very well together!
These tips will certainly contribute to keeping your new fabric sofa beautiful, but with a little love for your sofa you can go a long way!
